ATLANTA – Mickie James overcame humiliation at Royal Rumble by defeating Michelle McCool and winning the Women’s Championship for the fifth time.

For weeks, Women’s Champion Michelle McCool and Layla have been one of the cruelest duos in the history of WWE. They have maintained an upper hand over Mickie James by taunting and teasing her, referring to the multiple-time Women’s Champion as “Piggy James.” Mickie has tried to stand up for herself, but Michelle and Layla only become nastier as the weeks moved on, and have stopped at nothing to humiliate Mickie.

Recently on SmackDown, Mickie and Layla held a “going away party” in Mickie’s honor where they ended up shoving cake in her face and pouring a bowl of punch over her head. The next week on SmackDown, Layla wore a pig nose and fat suit in perhaps the worst mocking of Mickie yet.

At Royal Rumble, Michelle told the WWE Universe that there would be no match because “Piggy James” disappeared after the humiliation endured at the party. Layla then came to ringside again wearing a “Piggy James” fat suit as Michelle continued her cruel teasing.

Enough was enough, and Mickie James charged into the arena, first taking out Layla before entering the ring. Shocked, Michelle was caught off-guard and Mickie was able to use that to her advantage, quickly hitting the Mickie DDT to defeat Michelle.

Not only did Mickie regain the Women’s Title, but she got some sweet revenge by shoving cake into Michelle and Layla’s faces. While karma was not in Michelle and Layla’s favor, Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim, The Bella Twins, Eve and Maria showed Mickie their support by celebrating her victory in the ring, proving to Mickie that they are her true friends.

On this night, Mickie James’ actions spoke louder than words, as she returned the humiliation she has endured for weeks.

NEWARK, N.J. – Like the beautiful butterfly emblazoned on her Divas Championship, Mickie James soared to victory Sunday night over Alicia Fox, retaining her gold at Hell in a Cell.

It was Mickie’s greater experience and in-ring prowess that secured her win over Alicia, who albeit has been making waves on Monday nights. Mickie proved once again why she holds the honors of being only the second Diva in history to have earned both the Divas and Women’s Titles. After an extremely physical battle, Mickie hit her brash, arrogant rival with a devastating DDT, securing her spot as the reigning Divas Champion at WWE’s newest pay-per-view.

Before her loss to Mickie at Hell in a Cell, Alicia was on a roll, getting the better of the Divas Champion for the last few weeks. She defeated her in Raw’s “Mayweather Melee.” Then after earning the No. 1 contender spot, she distracted the Divas Champion from ringside, causing her to lose to Beth Phoenix. Afterward, the vindictive Fox capped off Mickie’s defeat with a scissors kick attack. Alicia was on a mission to prove she’s the new female ready to dominate Raw, but thanks to Mickie, she wasn’t able to demonstrate that in her first pay-per-view singles match.

Though doused in the face with perfume by Maryse less than a week before battling for the Divas Championship, Mickie James emerged smelling like a rose after defeating the conceited French Canadian to capture the WWE butterfly.

The satisfying victory comes after weeks of taunting and interference by the snobbish former Divas Champion. The win also propels Mickie into rare company indeed; she joins Women’s Champion Michelle McCool as the only other women to have captured both the Divas Title and Women’s Title. The milestone did not appear to go unappreciated by Mickie as she celebrated her landmark victory.

For Maryse’s part, the night would prove especially hurtful. Not only did she lose her precious title, but just moments before the match, she also blew off her suitor, The Miz, by dissing him and telling him that she doesn’t date losers who don’t have WWE Titles. C’est la vie, Maryse, c’est la vie.

Nobody can run forever. That’s the lesson slowly dawning on Divas Champion Maryse.

Despite the conceited Canadian’s efforts to seemingly avoid Mickie James, the Divas Champion must now face her rival one-on-one in a title match at Night of Champions.

For her part, the four-time Women’s Champion persevered match after match, defeating Maryse in singles and tag team competitions, resolute in her determination to face the Divas Champion for an opportunity at gold. That perseverance finally paid off when Mickie became the No. 1 contender to the Divas Championship after defeating three other Divas in a Fatal Four Way Match: Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendes. During that match, Mickie displayed the fortitude that has made her such a looming threat to Maryse.

To imply that Maryse will not put up a hard-charging defense, however, would be not only premature but foolish. With athleticism to match her beauty, Maryse has proven resourceful, cunning and willing to do just about anything to retain her place atop the Divas division. She may need to summon all of those traits in order to fend off her rival at Night of Champions.
